Draper Laboratory has a long-standing and extensive community outreach program that was formalized in 1984. Aligned to our business interests and educational mission, this program demonstrates a strong investment in the local community's quality of life.
Draper runs as an annual campaign for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay. Employee donations to the Laboratory's 2010 campaign totaled more than $192,000. Employees also have generously participated in company-matched emergency fundraising to help national and international emergency relief efforts.
Draper has maintained a long-standing leadership role with the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, and was a founding member of the Chamber's Community Outreach Committee. We are also a member of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Other memberships include the Kendall Square Association, the Cambridge Funders Group and Associated Grant Makers, Inc.
Kendall Community Group
Draper is a founding member of the Kendall Community Group, a collaboration of businesses and human services agencies designed to support local youth programs. The Lab participates on the KCG Advisory Board and provides financial support to the three KCG agencies - Tutoring Plus, the Community Art Center, and the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House - each year.
Cambridge School Volunteers KeyPal Program
Approximately 20 Draper employees volunteer annually in the KeyPal program at the Kennedy-Longfellow School. This electronic pen-pal program pairs each student in the sixth grade with an adult mentor to improve writing and computer skills and includes four face-to-face visits a year.
The employees of Draper Laboratory have a long history of service to the communities in which they work, live, and participate in group and individual volunteer opportunities in both community and civic organizations. Draper Volunteers! activities have included volunteering at the Greater Boston Food Band and the Charles River Clean Up.
Quarterly Blood Drives
Draper Laboratory holds winter, spring, summer, and fall blood drives annually to benefit the American Red Cross, Children's Hospital Boston, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Annual Holiday Toy Drive
Each year, Draper Laboratory employees donate hundreds of toys that benefit the Cambridge Fire Department's participation in the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
