Draper
Fellow Program Application Process
MIT students are considered for appointment as Draper Fellows in
the same manner as MIT Research Assistants. They should follow the
application procedure outlined in the next paragraph. Government
and industry employees, military personnel, and students planning
graduate study at schools other than MIT who are interested in becoming
Draper Fellows should contact Draper’s Education Office at ed@draper.com to learn about
their application process.
The procedure for students
who want to be Draper Fellows while they pursue a graduate degree
at MIT is to apply for admission to MIT in accordance with the standard
admission procedures. They should state in their MIT Financial Aid
Statement that they would be interested in being a Draper Fellow.
Students also should send an e-mail to Draper’s Education
Office stating that they have done so, and identify their citizenship
and in which engineering division at
Draper they would be interested in performing their thesis research.
After the students receive admission notification from a graduate
program, it is their responsibility to notify Draper’s Education
Office of their acceptance. Then Draper will contact the student’s
school to obtain a copy of his or her application. If a potential
position exists for a Draper Fellow appointment, the Education Office
will forward the application to various Laboratory technical staff
for evaluation, and then arrange an interview if possible.
After Draper Laboratory
decides to accept a student into its Draper Fellow Program, arrangements
are made with the graduate school for payment of full tuition and
the stipend. Income taxes on the stipend are the responsibility
of the student. |
