COMMUNITY GRANT/SPONSORSHIP & IN-KIND PROGRAM GUIDELINES
(last updated: October 25, 2007)
Overview
Draper is strongly committed to help enhance the welfare of the local community through the direct support of grants, sponsorships and in-kind services.
Grant Program Focus
Through our Community Grants Program, Draper provides grants to deserving nonprofit organizations and institutions serving the Cambridge community. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting educational programs in engineering, mathematics, and science, followed by those in human services and arts and culture.
Grant/Sponsorship Limitations
Draper's Community Grant and Corporate Sponsorship Programs do not fund:
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, or handicap.
- Organizations and agencies without 501(c)3 status
- Grants/sponsorships to individuals
- Academic Research
- Underwriting of film, video and television productions
- Conferences, trips or tours
- Political activities and organizations
- Sectarian or religious activities
- Advertising
- Membership fees or association fees, either personal or corporate
- Agencies or organizations that do not directly serve the Cambridge community
Process
Grant requests are reviewed three times a year; at the end of September, January and May, with recommendations made by a volunteer employee review committee. Only one grant per Draper Fiscal Year (July 1-June 30) is made to an organization. Requests for program or operating support will be considered. Contributions to capital or endowment campaigns are rarely made.
Proposal Deadlines
Proposal deadlines are the first of the following months: September, January and May. If the first falls during a weekend, the deadline will be the following Monday.
Grant/Sponsorship Applications
Effective January 1, 2006, Draper Laboratory converted to an online grant request process and requests that those seeking grants utilize this method. The new process makes applying for corporate grants simpler and more convenient. Please click “Online Grant/Sponsorship Application” on the left-hand side of this page. (Paper applications will be accepted only through the end of Draper Fiscal Year 2007, which ends on June 30, 2007.)
End of Year Reporting
Draper Laboratory requests that all agencies funded through our Community Grants Program submit a End of Year report no later than 60 days past the end of the grant cycle. In addition to being reviewed immediately by members of the Contributions Committee, it will be kept on file and considered in conjunction with new proposals in future funding cycles.
In-Kind Donations
Requests for in-kind donations and services must be sent in writing to Ellen Avery, Public and Community Relations Representative, at eavery@draper.com. Both kinds of donations are restricted to agencies serving the Cambridge community and can only be offered to those organizations with 501(c)3 status.
Please see Draper Laboratory's Community Involvement Report, 2001-2005 for details on Draper's Community Relations Program.
