Procedures

Draper Laboratory will consider requests for donation of surplus used equipment and furniture made in accordance with the criteria below.

Eligibility criteria
Priority is given first to Cambridge public schools and second to not-for-profit human service agencies and schools whose services are provided mostly to Cambridge residents. Schools and agencies outside Cambridge also are eligible; priority within this category is given first to schools at which an employee’s child is enrolled and second to organizations with which a Laboratory employee has an affiliation (e.g., through membership or volunteerism). Requests from schools and agencies outside Cambridge and without connections to a Draper employee will be considered but will have a lower priority.

Donations are not made to individuals, whether or not individuals are related to present or former employees of Draper Laboratory.

Requesting donations
Requests for donations must be made on the requesting organization’s official letterhead. The letter should specify what type of equipment is requested, as well as how the equipment would be used in support of the organization’s work. If the requesting organization has a connection to a Draper employee, the employee’s name should be mentioned in the letter and the nature of the Draper employee’s connection to the requesting organization should be outlined. All requests should be sent to the Office of Corporate Communications & Community Relations.

Once a request for equipment donation has been approved, the requester will be authorized to set up an appointment to visit the Laboratory’s warehouse to select specific equipment in conformity with their letter of request. Recipients are responsible for pick-up of equipment donated to them. All donations by the Laboratory are made on the condition that the equipment be accepted as is.
