Professional Summer Program
The Professional Summer Program has been co-sponsored by MIT and
Draper Laboratory for more than 30 years and has had more than 5,000
participants. The Professional Summer Program is a series of courses
(one to two weeks each) designed to meet the needs of the U.S. Navy
officers enrolled in the Naval Construction and Engineering Program
at MIT. Held during the summer months, it is also an excellent opportunity
for others in the ship design community, including U.S. and allied
governments and the commercial industry, to learn about the latest
methodologies and programs affecting the complex development of
naval ship design.
Courses are hosted by Draper. Titles of course offered in recent
years are listed below.

Applicants to Professional Summer are expected to have an education

applicants must have appropriate security clearances, need to know,
and U.S. government sponsorship. There are also specific requirements
for each course that are outlined in the Professional
Summer pages on the MIT web site.
Applications must be received by MIT at least two weeks before the
start of each course. Visitor request forms also must be submitted
to Draper at least two weeks before the start of each course.
Government Residents, Interns, and Associates
Draper participates in several governmental programs (such as in
the Education with Industry Program) through which employees of
other companies or military personnel are sent to Draper for a temporary
assignment to gain research or practical experience. These assignments
can last up to a year.
