University-Based Research Program

Draper funds a vigorous research program conducted by principal investigators at MIT and other universities to support Draper technologies and areas of programmatic interest. A call for proposals is issued each November through posting on Draper’s public web site and through personal contacts from Technical Staff members with faculty. The deadline to apply for funding is in the following January. Awards are announced in February, and the research begins in July.

Draper’s sponsorship of on-campus research projects at various universities has been continuous for more than 20 years. In recent years, approximately $2 million has been allocated each year to support 15 to 20 projects. Draper is proud to offer a program that not only advances technology but also enriches the education of students who have the opportunity to work on the projects it funds.
