Draper Fellows Advisor Receives Top Health & Medicine Honor
Draper Laboratory congratulates Roger Kamm, a research collaborator who has served as an advisor to five Lab fellows, on his Oct. 11 election to the Institute of Medicine (IOM).
Election to IOM recognizes those who have made significant achievements in health and medicine and can serve as models for others working in the field, according to the IOM website.
Kamm, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor in the departments of biological engineering and mechanical engineering, has advised Draper fellows and collaborated with the Lab on research since beginning a partnership with Jeff Borenstein, distinguished member of the technical staff at Draper, in 2000. Two of the fellows whom he had advised – Ernie Kim and Erin Pararas – are now full-time staff members at the Lab.
Kamm is currently collaborating with Joe Charest, a senior member of the technical staff at Draper, on the development of models that can mimic human tissue in a lab environment with the goal of improving researchers’ ability to experiment with methods to combat metastatic tumors, and is advising Jesse Jeon, a Draper fellow working on the project.
