Draper Joins BioMADE to Accelerate Bioindustrial Manufacturing Innovation

CAMBRIDGE, MA—Draper today announced that the company has joined BioMADE—the Bioindustrial Manufacturing and Design Ecosystem—a new Manufacturing Innovation Institute dedicated to advancing bioindustrial manufacturing across the nation.

BioMADE brings together a diverse range of member organizations, from large corporations to universities to start-ups. Launched with significant federal support in 2021, BioMADE harnesses the power of biology to create and domestically source the manufactured goods that people use every day.

“BioMADE’s work and mission fit in well with Draper’s innovation priorities,” said John Julias, biosecurity program manager at Draper. “The bioindustrial manufacturing ecosystem is poised for significant growth in the coming decade, and by joining BioMADE, we’re ensuring that Draper will be part of that growth.”

As a nonprofit engineering innovation company, Draper serves the nation’s interests and security needs; advances technologies at the intersection of government, academia and industry; cultivates the next generation of innovators; and solves the most complex challenges. Draper is developing innovative technology to advance the biomanufacturing field by combining applied science and multidisciplinary engineering.

Through funding, action and engagement, BioMADE supports the development of biomanufacturing technologies to strengthen American competitiveness; creates a more robust, resilient and bio-based supply chain; and helps the U.S. become more self-sufficient. BioMADE is also building a diverse and globally competitive STEM workforce by partnering with K-12 schools, community colleges, universities, and professional development organizations to ensure the workforce is prepared and ready to fill new jobs.

Members drive the priorities and success of BioMADE. Together, Draper will work with BioMADE and its nationwide roster of member organizations on the shared goal of securing America’s future through bioindustrial manufacturing innovation, education and collaboration.

BioMADE is one of nine Department of Defense Manufacturing Innovation Institutes. BioMADE is also a member of the Manufacturing USA network, which seeks to secure U.S. global leadership in advanced manufacturing.
