AURORA SEMICONDUCTOR ACQUIRES DRAPER ST. PETE MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Seven years after opening its Multichip Module (MCM) facility in St. Petersburg, Florida, Draper has sold its high-volume trusted manufacturing capability to Aurora Semiconductor, which received a 40 percent equity investment from Integra Technologies LLC.

Since Draper announced the consolidation of its Florida operations in April 2015, it has worked diligently to identify an appropriate buyer to turn the unique and scalable integrated ultra-high-density (IUHD) packaging technology it developed, which had broad relevance to defense, intelligence and biomedical applications into a high-volume production capability.

“Draper established a presence in Florida because the ecosystem exists to nurture a high-volume trusted manufacturing capability. Draper took a risk and developed the precursors to this market aggressively. We’re glad that Aurora—a company with leadership who possess proven low- to mid-volume manufacturing expertise—is ready to take our efforts to the next level; further strengthened by its partnership with Integra Technologies LLC, whose renowned test and characterization capabilities will ensure each semiconductor does what it’s meant to do. This is critical to supporting national security technology authentication,” said Draper President and CEO Kaigham J. Gabriel.

This acquisition enables Aurora to establish a U.S. high technology trusted packaging solution, in the Tampa Bay area, which can be used immediately by the defense community. Draper plans to be one of Aurora’s first partners, as it intends to subcontract some of its technology authentication work to the company.

“We look forward to becoming an active contributor to the Tampa Bay innovation ecosystem. We are especially excited about our manufacturing partnership with Draper, supporting national security and other important product lines. We also appreciate our nearly 10-year relationship with Integra, which has reached a new level of strategic significance for both companies, and I believe is a solid foundation for continued growth and shared success,” said Gary Breton, CEO of Aurora Semiconductor.

With this sale, Integra Technologies LLC customers have access to advanced MCM package technology, enabling Integra to develop low-cost production test solutions for the complex functions and MCM packages developed by Draper.

“Integra is excited to be investing in and partnering with Aurora Semiconductor to support products developed at Draper. We believe that Integra’s broad test and analysis expertise in all technology areas will complement Aurora’s manufacturing expertise to provide enhanced value to Draper and its end customers. We also believe that the combined Aurora-Integra technology offerings will provide new manufacturing solutions for other customers in the defense, medical and industrial markets desiring the control and security available from a USA-based source,” said  Becky Craft, CEO of Integra Technologies LLC.

The deal reinforces Draper’s continued commitment to the Tampa Bay area and the State of Florida.
