Draper Appoints New Mission Systems Lead

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Bill Borgia, who led robotics and unmanned systems work at Lockheed Martin Corp., has joined Draper to serve as mission systems director in the company’s Defense Systems program office.

As director of robotics and unmanned systems at Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Lab, Borgia built a product development center that won several key robotics initiatives serving air, ground, marine and underwater markets. Prior to that, Borgia served as senior program manager at General Dynamics Robotic Systems, where he led the development of products for commercial and government customers, including sensors and embedded software for the U.S. Army’s driverless vehicles. 

“Bill’s experience, combined with Draper’s expertise in robotics and autonomy, will enable him to lead our Draper team in creating the next generation of integrated processing, sensing, and software solutions to enable high impact military operations in an increasingly contested battlespace,” said  Neil Adams, Draper’s director of Defense Systems.

At Draper, Borgia will oversee the development of engineering solutions to address threats like jamming of GPS and communications signals that place U.S. aircraft and ships at risk. Those solutions will include precision navigation solutions for contested environments. He also will lead advanced technology development for customers including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Office of Naval Research, and other science and technology organizations.

Borgia received his MBA in management from MIT, where he was a Sloan Fellow. He also holds a master’s degree in systems engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Truman State University.
