Draper Awarded Position on $450 Million Army IDIQ for Modernization

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—As the U.S. government monitors emerging threats by state and non-state actors around the world, it faces highly adaptable opponents. These types of enemies study U.S. tactics, techniques and procedures and take advantage of new commercial capabilities quickly to strike against the vulnerabilities they find. In contrast, U.S. forces and intelligence agencies are often hamstrung by the conventional requirements and budget cycle as they seek to keep pace.

To ensure that technological overmatch continues in the nation’s favor, the U.S. Army awarded Draper and 11 other companies initial task orders as prime contractors on the $450M Army Modernization Priorities IDIQ multiple award contracting vehicle to acquire new capabilities. Under AMP, Draper may develop technologies to enable and accelerate Army modernization transformational overmatch capabilities.

“Staying ahead of an adaptable enemy requires a flexible, multidisciplinary engineering approach,” said Scott Dellicker, Draper’s director of Army and Special Operations Forces Programs. “Draper will draw on expertise in areas including precision ammunition; missile defense; assured position, navigation and timing; electronic systems; secure communications; and modeling and simulation.”

Draper formed a comprehensive team of 20 partners to meet the challenges of capability development for multi-domain operations. 

The company has previously applied its multidisciplinary engineering capabilities to a variety of related programs including persistent surveillance systems; sensors and navigation systems for drones; and miniature cryptography for high stress environments. Recently, Draper has provided the military with capabilities including gun-hardened guidance and electronics units, guided medium caliber munitions, advanced artillery systems and submunitions and autonomous/semi-autonomous technologies.
