Draper Hosts Rear Admiral John Mauger, U.S. Coast Guard (ret.)

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Draper recently hosted Rear Admiral John Mauger, U.S. Coast Guard (retired) to discuss potential synergies between Draper's technologies and the Coast Guard's operational needs.

Anthony Kourepenis, vice president of Engineering at Draper, said, "It was an honor to meet with Rear Admiral Mauger and to learn more about the Coast Guard's missions and challenges and to provide an overview of Draper's capabilities."

The meeting focused on Draper’s expertise in tactical programming and user interfaces, autonomous systems, assured positioning, navigation and timing (APNT), and alternative navigation for maritime operations. Research opportunities for U.S. Coast Guard Academy cadets through the Draper Scholars program was also discussed.

Draper’s contributions to national defense extend beyond these areas to include the development of inertial guidance systems for ballistic missile applications and space missions; highly reliable computing systems for undersea, air and space vehicles; miniature electromechanical systems for guided munitions; and biodefense and biosecurity applications.

Draper has supported the U.S. military’s mission for more than 90 years.

As Commander of the First Coast Guard District, Mauger led over 12,000 people and oversaw critical port operations in New England. In a prior role, he served as Assistant Commandant for Capability, where he developed strategies and policies for acquisition, test, operation, and sustainment of all Coast Guard capabilities. He also served at U.S. Cyber Command, where he focused on cyber training, developing a cloud-based environment that modernized cyber exercises and increased readiness.

In his current role as founder and principal of Preparedness, Operations, Resiliency, and Training Solutions (PORTS), LLC, Mauger helps clients plan for and navigate complex challenges in the maritime and critical infrastructure industries while enhancing personnel and team performance through effective training.
